How to Promote your Holiday Sales Successfully!

Holiday sales scare me but I want to try it this year...what do I do?

It’s so easy to get a little bit scared when it comes to this time of the year. You want to make money but you don’t want to scare off your audience. I’m here to let you know that no matter what you do, whether it’s the holidays or not you are going to turn some people off. I’m also here to tell you that it’s perfectly ok if they do not like it, you are trying to attract your ideal CUSTOMERS!

It’s better to have 10 ideal customers excited about your sale than 1,000 non-ideal subscribers who are just there for the freebies.

That being said, in this post I’m going to be sharing with you how to come up with a sale, how to create sales graphics for that sale, and how to promote it with confidence. If you are ready, let's begin!

What to Sale?

It may seem hard to decide what’s best to sale, but I don’t want you to get so caught up in this. My rule of thumb is to do a sale on something that is already selling already. Do not try to come up with a completely new product. You don’t want people scratching their heads.

For instance for me I sell my stock photo membership. It sells well so I’m going to create a sale that corresponds to my membership. I’ll look back at the types of sales I’ve created in the past and I’ll see what sold the best. For me it was Lifetime memberships and lowing the cost of the membership for a limited time. I’m going to want to do the same thing for this year as well!

Why because IT WORKED!

  • Say for instance you offer digital products in your shop. Why not offer a 20-40% sale on the items in your shop.

  • You could also bundle popular and similar items together for even more profit.

  • If you are service based, why not give them a bonus add on feature with your service. This way you’ll earn profits without having to discount your service.

  • If you have your own course why not take a piece of your course and sell it as a stand alone. If your course is very expensive, it could be a great way to entice them by giving them a teaser. Find a module that adds a lot of value and sell as a stand alone course.

If you do not have a service of a digital product here are a few ideas to think about:

  • Bundle your most popular and valuable blog posts into an ebook. If your are teaching a specific area then bundle them together. Not every has looked at your blog post. This may take a day of your time to create but it’s totally worth it!

  • Affiliate Links. If you are a blogger why not check your affiliate programs and see what they are promoting for black friday. Create a gift guide for your audience and promote it to your email list and social platforms.

The main tip to remember is to know your worth when it comes to selling during black friday. Don’t try to do a huge sale and make little profit. Focus on the popular items that are selling, create  bundle deals or create bonuses to your service. Don’t overthink it your IDEAL AUDIENCE will love anything you are selling

For those afraid to sale… Here’s some fun ideas!

  • Something I’ll be doing this year is making things a little bit more enticing to buy by holding a mega deal for only 1 hour! So if you do have a higher priced item why not have a discount for 1 hour only and let them know that it will no longer be that price after that one hour!

  • You could also do a 3 day sale of your items and each day the discount gets lower. I’ve seen plenty of business women do this and I even got enticed my own self to purchase right away! You could also promote a new product/service each day for those 3 days!

  • 10Days of Sales or 12 Days of Sales if its Christmas. This is something I’lll be doing during December. Figure out digital products you would want to sell for each day and hold a sale for each day. It’s limited addition and totally worth it to your audience. You can rotate through BOGO, discounts, Bonus, Free Shipping, package bundles up, etc.

  • Another cool offer is to do a Name your Price offer. You’ll set a minimum price and they can choose what works for them. You can do this in Thrive Cart but definitely search around to find a good program that offers this. Once they purchase this add in a tripwire or order bump to the more expensive product. They will feel like they got a deal plus another deal! I’ve even got caught up in purchasing like this before!

  • Finally I’ve also heard of Bump Sale is an extremely great way to add urgency to any sale. What happens that every time someone purchases the item the price goes up depending on what you chose the bump to be. The only thing is you do need to be apart of Stripe to do this.

Creating Sales Graphics

Now my favorite part is always the creation part! I happen to have a holiday sales graphics bundle inside the membership to make it a lot easier for myself and my members to create with ease! The job of a sales graphic is to first attract your audience, then tell them what they need to know in a straightforward way that’s easy to see and understand.

Here are a few design tips that I’ve learned over my years of promotion!

  1. Hierarchy helps bring attention to what is most important. It shows where the viewer needs to look at first and how to proceed further. We read from top to bottom and left to right so keep this in mind when adding your words. Other key points to remember is:

    • font size (your main header needs to be the largest)

    • font weight and style (bold, italic, etc.)

    • text boxes or blocks of color

    • alignment

  2. Make your graphic breathable. Do not try to cram every little thing on a graphic. Focus on what matters and leave the rest for your sales page. White space is your friend!

    • Add visual cues  such as underlining, arrows, ribbons/banners, etc.

    • Bullet points helps to break up long paragraphics

    • Place related items closer together

  3. Create a Catchy Headline with Trigger Words. The headline should be big and easily readable. Usual in a bold font.

    • Adding trigger words such as “FREE” and (X)% off are magnets to people’s eyes. Use them in prominent places to help attract their attention.

  4. Stay with in your brand’s guidelines

    • It’s so easy to want to add in a bright bold red color to attract people but if that isn’t part of your brand color palette then you shouldn’t make it a part of it now.

    • Let your brand be noticeable so people know exactly who it is they are purchasing from.

    • Add in your logo, color, font for a cohesive polished look.

  5. Limit your font choices to 2-3. Using too many fonts can look too cluttered. Choose fonts that are not only readable but readable from a distance as well.

    • Keep in mind your brand guidelines. If anything you should already have fonts that work best from website copy and sales copy.

  6. Use high resolution images. Blurry and low quality images can turn off a view. Worse of all is that they could equate the low quality to your business and products! Always use crisp and clear photos for  your website. She Bold Stock is the go to for high quality images!

  7. Have a Call to Action. What do you need your viewer to do next? A call to action is anything from “Shop Now,” “Book Now,” “Link in Bio,” “Join Now,” etc.

  8. Something that can be easily forgotten is to include contact information. Add your website url at the bottom. By any unforeseen circumstances a viewer may not find your link in your bio. By having this added coverage this will help direct them so they don’t get frustrated and exit out.

  9. Proofread and proofread again. It’s important to have all of your information correct now rather than later. For instance if you said $20 instead of 20% that can be aggravating to a viewer who thought your course was $20 for this sale...hey it could happen! Another mistake I have made is coupon codes make sure you have the correct code listed so that people won’t be emailing you about it!

  10. Use the art of color psychology to support your message. Use it to enhance your graphic.

Promoting your Sell Fearlessly

Start Giving sneak peeks and hints Now!

You want to also think about using social media to promote your sale. I would suggest starting 2-4 weeks ahead of time. The 1st couple of weeks should be about Hinting at your upcoming sale via instagram stories, facebook, twitter, and emails. Social media have awesome tools like like polls. Polling your audience to gage what they would like would be something great if you have absolutely no idea what to create for them! Even blurring out your sales graphic for the upcoming day will get people excited too.

The last 1-2 weeks before the event make sure to talk about what the holidays mean to you. Share with them how your product could decrease the stress off of them.

Start sharing testimonials and user generated content

Don't just tell them...show them. You can repost user generated post to your instagram stories through out the day. Share a testimonial from one of your clients. Throughout the week. Give people a reason to believe in your service or products.

Reach out to past customers and clients to promote your work

Don’t be afraid to reach out to your past customers and ask them to promote for you. You can give them a special affiliate code or a discount off their next purchase. Getting your eyes on a new audience is really important if you are a small business owner.

Don’t be afraid to promote to your email list

Did you know that 82% of consumers open emails from businesses, and that 44% of email recipients made at least one purchase last year based on a promotional email? So don’t think for a second that everyone is going to unsubscribe. There may be some but chances are they weren’t your ideal audience. That’s ok, it makes room for the ones who are. The best thing to do is to segment your list to just the ones that are most interested in your products. To make this easier you can create a segmented email list either in mailchimp or convert kit and let them sign up to be notified. This can help spot who is really interested in your work and who may need more convincing!

Announce on social media

Visit all platforms and use your social media graphics to tell everyone that you are holding an amazing sell. Be confident in it. Add your link to seal the deal. Get on Facebook or Insta Stories and talk about your sell more in depth. Add testimonials, add your  own testimonial, and shout it from the rooftops that you have a sale that they will not want to miss. Promote every single day using about 2-5 stories to talk about your product. Plus add in other things throughout the day so that you feel comfortable promoting.
